Somewhere I got the idea that .44 Auto Mags were "280" models and .357 Auto Mags were "180" models.

That's apparently wrong, because there's an Auto Mag on Gunbroker plainly marked "TDE AUTO MAG .44 AMP MODEL 180".

Since I'm obviously clueless about Auto Mag nomenclature, can someone fill me in?

From the pistols and barrels I have seen all the standard (slotted or hollow) bolt 44AMP's were marked MODEL 180 no matter what length. All the solid bolt barrels as used on the "B" and "C" series pistols in 44 AMP were marked MODEL 280 no matter what length. I have never seen a solid bolt 357 AMP.

The 357 AMP's with the standard bolt are all marked MODEL 160 that I have seen.

The L E Jurras custom series AMP's had their own special model numbers.

The Lomont AMP's I have seen in 44 and 357 AMP have used the 180 and 160 model numbers like the factory. Lomont's 41 JMP's were marked MODEL 170.

The only other 41 JMP barrels I have seen were Jurras Custom Model 100.

At least one Covina 357 AMP barrel I know is marked "280" along with a 45 Winchester Magnum Covina barrel marked "280" as well.

I think someone published a list of all the model numbers all the way down to the 22 AMP.

Maybe Bruce???
