With some of the left over parts I made in order to do the MG47ES tutorial I am building a bullpup version of the MG47 beltfeed. I don't claim it to be an exceptionally good idea, just something to build for fun with some parts I have cluttering up my work bench.
(So not to hi-jack CTR's thread I started a new one for my MG47BP)
Here are some pictures of what I have done so far on my MG47BP. AK barrel, MG47ES receiver, gas tube, gas piston, FCG tray arrangement, modified BC and BC extension, RPD top cover. As soon as I get a top cover latch made I will cut the extra length of the back of the receiver, about 2".

Here are a couple of more pictures of the gripstick and FAL butt plate attached. I also cut 2" off the back of the receiver.

The belts will feed from a SAW 249 50 round cloth "nut sack" mounted like Doubletapme's.

A better option is to hang a metal ammo can off your pants belt loop and let it feed up towards the pup. That way you're good for 500+round capacity. Can't wait to see this "puppy" finished. You guys are making these builds look simple.
Now it is making more sense to me. I had thought there would be a problem with the feed system so close to your face. It certainly appears I was wrong.
Have you considered installing a ejector in the bolt so the cartridge would eject to the right side. It seems an ejector installed like the M-1 carbine ejector would work without any difficulty.
I admit to not knowing where to install such an ejector in the bolt. If you are interested in finding out, find a copy of Hatcher's Notebook. It may be available through your local library. Hatcher has diagrams showing different ways to control the ejection in relation to the extractor.
MG47BP trigger bar
Here are some pictures of the trigger and how it actuates the FCG. The gas tube locking lever doubles as a safety by when rotated vertical rides in a half circle groove in the trigger bar blocking its rearward movement. When in the normal position in the detent hole, the trigger bar can move freely.

This weekend I got the top cover latch, feed stud, cocking handle and ejector installed. I had to open up the RPD links by snaping a .535 diameter round bar into each link to expand them because with even a M60 return spring it would take 2 or 3 hits from the bolt to strip the cartridges from the link. Now the cartridges are about as tight in the links as they are in a MG3 belt. It feeds and ejects manually good now. I will posts pictures ASAP. Install the barrel pin and it is ready to test fire. No handguards yet though.
