I voted

Where I live the voting districts are gerrymandered to run certain areas through their polling stations in minutes, while taking everyone else hours at a single overloaded polling station.

Arkansas now has something called "early voting." A month or so before the main election, you wander down to the Community Center (everyone has to go to the same place), zip through the line, and you're out. Lines are short because almost nobody knows about early voting, and the electoral pages on the state's web site barely mention it exists, and have nothing about where and when.

Last week I found out there was an election entirely by accident. Being semiretired now, I went down at my convenience and voted on some stuff for a local primary.

I've been bitter for a long time about the way elections are handled in my area. I was even more bitter when I found out Election Day was a national holiday in the Soviet Union. About the time I got over that, I found out citizens in classical Athens got *paid* to vote. And I got censured by my employer for being late to work, because I'd thought hitting the polls three hours early would give me enough time... In some states you can simply cast an absentee vote by mail, but Arkansas requires that you either be actually outside the state, in the hospital, imprisoned, or otherwise be provably unable to get to your appointed polling place. I don't think anyone has ever checked, but that's the law here.
