You mean the part where they found judges were taking kickbacks from the prisons and "youth camps" to keep their headcounts up? "That'll never happen. Well it only happened once. Well, twice. It doesn't happen very often, no need to worry about it. What? No comment!"

The State of Florida's prison system runs an automatic transmission rebuilding center, where they sell rebuilt transmissions in competition with private remanufacturers. Except the Florida prison system is using slave labor, doesn't pay taxes, and can undercut market prices. Other states use "white collar" inmates to man help desks, and they do it so cheaply that vendors like Dell insourced their support lines back from India. (yes, lots of places now, if you get an American on the help line, they're "voluntarily" working for some prison system.)

"We're going to broaden our definitions of 'crime', enforce 'zero tolerance' policing, institute mandatory sentencing, and run our prison systems for profit. What could possibly go wrong?"
