Finally got my Enfield back from the gunsmith after 5 months.

This rifle is a Lee Enfield No.4 MkI, which was not in good shaped when I got it, and still plagues me with accuracy issues.

It has been a working in progress for the last 15 years.

I replaced the horrible trigger and installed a Thor replacement trigger. These triggers are made locally here in South Africa and specifically for the Lee Enfield. Pretty solid. The only thing I found on these triggers, is the sear is not well polished, but is easily stripped and polished. Even in its raw state, it makes a nice crisp trigger.

They sell for between $70-$80

Some minor engineering and fitting is required to get the trigger to fit. Nothing a swiss needle file won't sort out.

Excuse the dust on this image. Busy doing a glass bedding job.

The bolt requires modifiying. This makes it impossible to go back to the original trigger.

Could this be fitted to a Mk2 with the extra "hanger" on the reciever?

Reckon you would have to machine that part away to get it to fit, and never be able to go back.

Thor make triggers for the P14, No.1 MK3 and No.4 MKI. Have not seen anything specific for the No.4 MK2 though

Glass bedding job has been completed and the rifle assembled. I noted, that the action and barrel are a lot stiffer than before the glass bedding job.

Some nervous moments glass bedding the Enfield.

This Saturday coming I will chuck some lead through the barrel and see if the accuracy has improved.

I took the No.4 rifle to the range this weekend, and fired 10 rounds through the barrel. Groups have tightened significantly. What a difference.

The No.1 also performed flawlessly. Getting 1" groups at 100M on open sights. Bedding makes a huge difference to these rifles. Get the bedding right though is a trial and error process, but if one follows the recomendations they work.
