While looking for something else on my favorate Swedish/Norwegian/Danish gun website, I found this concise quote from Mike Daly in answer to what Pyrodex consists of. IF Hodgdon had not started calling it "BP substitute" for marketing reasons, NO ONE would be calling it a "sub".

[whatever the quote was, it's 404 now...]

That is the same feller who some years back tried to tell somebody on a message board that dicyanamide does not give off cyanide when heated to decomposition. Told him to go read the warning labels on the bags it comes it.

Also the feller who when they came out with 777 said it contained no "nitro kicker" on the SASS board posting as "birdshot". Trouble there is that the ATF forensic lab identified the exact dinitro compound that 777 is based on. In my wife's kitchen which is my lab when she goes away I identified it as a sodium dinitro sulfonate but not the exact compound.

I should also mention this same feller some years back tried to claim that potassium perchlorate is not corrosive.

The dude has a serious credibility problem here in this house.

Yea, I remember that or a similar thread on SASS Wire. I got jumped on by that Birdshot feller for posting "nonsense" about a nitro kicker. I did later learn that the dinito kicker is indeed there.

I too have come to value his information quite lowly.

I have also come to conclusion that much of Pyrodex's bad rap is directly related to his BS about perclorates not being corrosive. Did the guy not even take high school chemistry?!

The Swedish-Norwedian language thread I quoted is from 2005, otherwise I would have made a "contribution". Actually, it would appear from elsewhere that the Swede asking the question of Hodgdon knew of something about the nitro kicker. May write and ask him. That gun board is one of my all time favorite gun sites.
