One thing has me worried about the new 1911 I am building. I can't seem to figure out why i don't have any over travel in the trigger to adjust out.

I have the over travel screw turned all the way out so it is not making contact with the frame. I have two grip safeties. with my old grip safety, the over travel needs to be adjusted. With the new grip safety there is no over travel to be adjusted.

I know this sounds like a no brainer but it is not. I have measured both safeties and have checked the clearance on both of them relative to the trigger. nothing appears to be dragging.

I have installed only the trigger, grip release, sear spring, mainspring housing and pin and mag release. I have shined a flashlight into the frame to watch the trigger as it moves back. I have done this with and without the sear, hammer and disconnector also.

I still cannot see why I don't have any over travel to take out with the new safety. It safety checks fine, and when I slowly work the hammer with the trigger pulled completely back i do not hear any clicks or other indications that something is dragging.

I know i'm missing something simple here but for the life of me I cannot figure out what it is. Even with the sear spring removed so the only items on the frame are the trigger, housing and grip safety, there is a significant difference in trigger travel between the two grip safeties. Both are shaped nearly identical and both function test perfectly.

The disconnector is moving and not hanging up on the sear. This is the first time I have ever run into this.

Any ideas what i am overlooking? it is a 'long' trigger. I have marked the point of maximum movement on the trigger with respect to both grip safeties.

I cannot account for why the trigger stops with one grip safety and not with the other. I have had this apart and have been looking at it for four days now and am going a bit wacky.

With an empty gun, hold the trigger back and swing the hammer. What you are looking for is if the sear tip touches the hammer hooks or half cock. If so, you will have to get some clearance. You may have a long trigger stirrup (the part that passes thru the mag well), which may need adjusting for length.

I adjust my triggers til I feel the sear clicking against the hammer hook, then turn out the adjustment screw 3/4 to a full turn.

Hopefully someone else will chime in, there maybe something I've missed.

Could there be a difference in the holes in the grip safety?

That may be difficult to determine, regardless I'm not sure I see where there is any problem, why fix what isn't broken? Am I misunderstanding your question, or are you just curious?

I think you are 100% correct. nothing is broken, I'm just a bit nervous since its the first time I have not had to take over travel out of a trigger. given that it is a new frame, new grip and new trigger -- and they work perfectly -- I probably have no reason for concern.

I guess I'll just remove the adjustment screw and go have fun shooting my new blaster.
