Well I finally finished this build after 7 years. I purchased this frame over 7 years ago to practice snakeskinning on. This is the very first one I did and after completing it put it in the safe as it did not turn out exactly as I had planned. Well after working around it in the safe for the last 7 years it finally grew on me and I completed it last month. I now kind of like the non-symmetrical look of it. Well after building pistols for a few years at least I can say I have one of my own now. Even if it is mostly take off parts etc.
Ain't nothing wrong with that.
Clean lines and very businesslike.
I can't pick up where anything is wrong on the snakeskin finish from those pics, we all tend to be a little over critical of our own work I guess.
Nice photos too, very artistic with the empty cases and the knife.
Very nice! Is the texture cut with an end mill?

My math was off slightly when I did this first one and you will notice that
every other horizontal line is off. IE there is not a even gap between every
other line. I can live with it now as I will keep it myself and its still very
functional.

Thanks man I appreciate that but I couldnt dare take advantage of you that way
with one of my mistakes therefore I will keep it for myself.

Yep done with a 1/8 endmill plunge cut while head is tilted. Pretty easy to
do, hard part is figuring out the math on how much to rotate the frame and how
much one should tllt the head. Not hard just lots of math involved. Once you
figure it out though its a piece of cake to replicate. You just set your quill
stop for the depth and rotate dividing head plunge cut, rotate dividing head
plunge cut, when done with a horizontal line move table and repeat.
Knife is something I made after purchasing a box of old files at an auction. I was not using them and saw a knife a friend made out of a file so said why not. Its differentially heat treated, so you can see the difference between the hard and soft part of the knife. Been hanging out at Don foggs knifeforum and picked up a few pearls of wisdom from those folks that encouraged me to try my hand at knifemaking.
Ahhh, I see what you mean now with the spacings.
Still, it looks good and even if it is a "mistake" it looks like it is suppossed to be that way being so regular and all.
I LIKE the alternating spacing. I think it looks cool without detracting from the effectiveness.

It looks more ornate than the usual snakeskin. Kind of like skip line checkering on wood grips.
