While browsing breech face pics on google I see Kimber and mabye others have removed the wall(?) under the extractor tunnel. I tried the search on here but didnt come up with any explanation or pros/cons. I was wondering what purpose this could serve?

Could you post photos with and without this "wall" you refer to? I don't own any Kimbers and I am not able to visualize what you're talking about.

I've a feeling Kenny78's talking about the lower part of the breechface guide block below the extractor tunnel - the left hand arrow in this is pointing to it:

I wonder what some enterprising 1911 maker will delete next?

The first link doesn't show me anything, and the second link wants me to register and log in.

Please post photos here so people can see what you're talking about.

The picture I saw on the site linked above shows the back of a spent case with a large flat indentation on one side by the rim. This mark is the result of a bump in the breachface caused by a worn machine tool that didn't make a sharp corner in the breachface corner above the word "blocks" shown in Niemi24s picture.

My MetroArms breachface was like this until I removed the bump with a file. An easy check for this condition is to insert a round under the extractor and push the cartridge against the breachface to see if it sits flush and to check extractor clearance too.

To me, your verbal description from Post #1 (above) is clear and unambiguous: It's the area pointed out in Post #3 and I can see it in the first link in Post #4. It's NOT the ledge on the breechface that makes the little step in the case head upon firing.

Is this correct?

Neimi, Thank you for linking that. I finally able to direct link but cant embed.

Yes, the area circled in your pic. Does anybody know what advantage that could provide or problems/dangers this would present?

I see no advantages in removing that part of the right hand breechface guide block. Seems the disadvantage would be allowing the case rim to possibly get too far to the right before making contact with the extractor. This might make it harder for the rim to get all the way up the breechface.

Be nice to know the story behind it.
