I have 2 issues with my RIA. The slide sometimes fails to lock back when shot empty. Any suggestions?
After disassembling my 1911 the hammer fails to stay cocked back when the slide is racked(not every time) and follows the silde down. Also the palm grip safety isnt functioning. IE. with hand off of the grip the trigger will still pull and let the hammer fall. (empty of course)
The sear spring is not installed correctly.
Alland is most likely correct. The sear spring must be on top of the sear, yours is most likely under it.
I presume the grip safety wasn't working before you took it apart as if it won't cock, the grip safety can't help. The arm is most likely too short to block the trigger.
Is there a preferred method for installing the sear spring?
Also, what should I do to make the slide lock back reliably?
There's only one way to install it and this is it:
Oh wow, that is exactly what I needed. Thanks for the help.

So, now it doesn't cock. The grip safety doesn't work. and it doesn't lock
back on empty. Anything else, or is that it.
As per niemi's picture and this is the order I do it.
When ever the MSH is going to come out I always start by removing the thumb safety first, then lower the hammer and push out the MSH pin. Slide it down and the grip safety will come out. Continue to what ever point you wish. Upon re-assemble lay the sear spring with the tab in the slot and the leaves on top of the sear and disconnector. Slip the MSH up part way, to hold the sear spring, now hold the grip safety in place and slide the MSH up the rest of the way with the strut centered in the spring cap. Insert the MSH pin. Cock the hammer and install the thumb safety.
