I have a Brazilian slide like this picture that I found in another thread.
With the gun fully disassembled, just the frame and the slide, if I push the slide all the way to the rear, it gets stuck there. Usually I can just tap it and get it to go back.
With the gun fully assembled, almost every time that I fire it, it really gets stuck. The slide is moving backwards with a lot more force.
Any ideas on the problem/solution?
Some more background.
This started ad an 80% build. I didn't want to make the slide too loose so when I lapped it, well it can be described as a tight fit. No rattles. I can always lap it more, but I am not sure that will solve the problem.
Is it hanging up on the disconector? or maybe the hammer? ...does the slide have a chamfer at the bottom of the breechface... that rail that runs down the center that depresses the disconnector?
That's what comes to mind...
Lots of possible causes - get a can of prussian blue, or you can soot the frame heavily with an acetylene torch, and carefully assemble and disassemble (just slide and frame - leave all the other pieces off since they're not part of the problem.) and see where it's rubbing / sticking. You may have to repeat this several times, but you can ususally zoom in on a problem pretty quick.
It might be too tight in the ejector area. The Ejector being off set or too wide , for the groove in the slide.
If you look at the slide rails where they end in the front you see the cut ends in a radius. Look at the front of your frame rails and see if they are square or have some radius on them, this is where the problem usually is. A little filling on the front of the frame rails should take care of it both on the rail itself and the front of the channel itself. If not this measure the width of your frame and slide rails, there may be some taper.

When you put a slide on a frame and push all the way to the rear it will go further to the rear than when your pistol is completely together. Thats because when a guide rod is in said pistol it shortstrokes it slightly, so if it only sticks when stripped down completely its not a problem. As for why it sticks when assembled you need to dykem the slides rails and the frames rails and see what is happening. Its usually crashing of the end of the frames rails and the beginning of the slides rails, but youll know soon enough with dykem or black marker and some dry runs.
Its easy enough to know if its the disconnector as you will see the disc at the bottom of the breech face, with the breech face attempting to cam it down if it hangs there just reangle the disc so the angled face reaches down further down the disc so it can be cammed easier, either that or also dress the bottom of the breech face with more radius to cam down the disc easier.
Found the problem. thanks for the replies. for whatever reason this frame had a raised area just in front of where the guide rod goes. the bottom of the slide was wedging in there. I took the files to it and all is good.
