Ok, everything is together and working... but I finally got the trigger working like it should, safetys are working like they should... everything was going OK untill I put on the slide.

Racking the slide will only half cock the hammer, If I apply a little pressure down on the fireing pin retainer it will fully cock.

I measured the play and the retainer will only move down .016" so I know it's not off by much but where can I get it back?

After taking a break from it (and watching the Pats win :) )

I started thinking... I should be able to kiss the hammer notch a bit to fix it.

Sometimes you just need to step away and breathe ;)

Depending on what brand of sear you bought, it might be a bit too long. Some are made that way to allow you to fit it to the proper length.

Try to compare the sear with other 1911's if you have any. Lacking that, I have attached a page from Kuhnhausen Vol II that shows some sear dimensions.

It's a Chip McCormick Sear and Hammer.

So I would be better off trimming the sear?

Well, it depends. I generally don't trim the sear unless it's obviously too long. On the other hand, a replacement sear is less expensive than a new hammer, so that is probably where I would concentrate my efforts.
