What's the supposed virtue of having two hook edges instead of one all the way across like most other sears?
And if there is a "real" virtue to them, can a regular sear be cut like the GC sear?
For the guys that have never seen a Gold Cup sear, here's what one looks like
not the area of the sear that hold the hammer hooks
Me thinks if you look at the safety catch/notch on the hammer, it's only in the center... thus preserving the engagement surface of the sear nose.
It really doesn't make sense to cut a sear that way, as the hammer hooks have no contact with the center of the sear.
There must be a reason for that cut, just not sure what it is.
I vote that is to make room for whatever is contacting the sear here:
A different, abbreviated half-cock notch, perhaps?
The notch allows for a closer set over travel screw. The mark is simply where the half cock notch has contacted when pulled to half cock.
The Gold Cup hammer has an abreviated half cock notch in the center only.
