What type of WECSOG band-aid/patch can be done on an old Star.45 that was the unfortunate recipient of a feed-ramp polishing. As you figure, the anodizing 'protecting' the aluminum is gone, and hp ammo is unfortunately bad juju for this old bird.

Besides just using hardball ammo, can any type of ceramic/epoxy/ironglue/majic-momo juice fix this beast? It feeds smooth with the 230gr, but will the feedramp be damaged in the process?

You can have the frame re-anodized fairly inexpensively. That's probably the least expensive fix.

I believe Evolution Gun Works makes (or made) a "feed ramp insert" thingy for 1911 frames that had been fubared on that area. You might be able to have one fitted to your Star, although I'll bet it would be cost prohibitive.

Or, you can just apply some JB Weld to the feed ramp!

There really isn't anything cost effective you can do. If it were a "high end" Kimber or a Colt it might be worth having an insert put in, but not for a Star.

If it is a carry gun and the ramp functions fine as is then carry it a lot and buy another gun to shoot.

If it is a gun you like or carry it is worth it to get it repaired. If it's a plinker for the range only shoot hardball.

On a 1911 you can have the feed ramp removed and put a barrel in that has the feed ramp. I do not know if that can be done on a Star.

This is what one looks like.

"...anodizing 'protecting' the aluminum is gone..." Anodizing doesn't protect much of anything. It's really just a colouring finish for Al. When Al oxidizes(turns grey, usually), it only goes so far then it stops.

If you want any bullet shape other than RN's to feed in a .45 the feed ramp needs to be extended up the sides of the chamber using a fine jeweller's file. The barrel is NOT Al. Mind you, it won't necessarily work on an old Star.

Hard anodizing does protect against corrosion. Decorative anodizing can be removed with scotch bright.

I've not seen an aluminum framed 1911 and don't know if they even have that on the ramp. Hard anodizing is highly abrasive.

Rogers Precision does a stainless steel ramp insert - high quality machine work at a fair price.

I had it done about two years ago after I bought an alloy-framed 3" Kimber that someone had "home-smithed". If I remember correctly, it was about $150. Had the frame Cera-Koted at the same time, and it is now my favorite 1911.

Do a Google search for Rogers Precision - I believe Chuck Rogers is also a member on this forum.
