I've been wanting to post this for a while: the feed ramp of my Colt (from this thread). It is a very smooth feeder (no ka-chunk) and so far has zero failures on FMJ. I haven't tried out JHP, but I'll get there eventually.
Actually, all of the internal surfaces look like that--the outer polish is great, but they seem to have had an interesting combination of worn machinery with excessive runout and unskillfully made cutters in the early 80's.
Anyway, I have often seen people say that you don't need to polish your ramp unless it has big tool marks you can easily feel. I'm not entirely sure you need to polish it even then. I certainly won't be polishing this one.
Is that a picture of a Colt feed ramp?
It look like it is cut to the wrong angle to me.
Typically the feed ramp extends down to the bottom the the slide stop notch cutout.
I would try different ammo first. Chances are even with what it looks like as of now, it will most likely feed just fine.
That is a Colt feed ramp. I have never measured the angle.
I have no intention whatsoever of polishing it because the gun works so well. That's my point!
Rule number #1: if it works leave it alone.
And moreover is the fact that it appears too short so evidently the feedramp isn't the source of many perceived feedramp problems.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
