I managed to screw up on my feed ramp cut. Ive done a couple before with no problem. Its a easy enough cut, but for some reason instead of the nominal 1/32 step into the barrel, the barrel actually hangs over the ramp edge by a couple hundredths or so. Just enough to feel with your fingernail, which is obviously causing my dummy rounds to jam. Now I could cut the bottom of the barrel's ramp but I don't think I'll have enough to safely support the brass. I was thinking of welding a bead along the ramp and re cutting it. I don't have TIG just stick or wire feed. Any suggestions?

If I understand you cut the frame's feedramp slightly oversized so that the barrel's feedramp is overhanging the frame's. Not to worry, if it were excessive I would recommend installing EGW (Evolution Gun Works) steel feedramp. Or better yet making one yourself. If you were to look at theirs you would figure out how to make one I am sure. But I have on more than one occasion filed the end of the barrel's ramp so that I got the 1/32 of an inch clearance. Next I dremeled the flat away by slightly recontoured the barrels feedramp slightly steeper to compensate for the shorter feedramp. Its not hard to do with a stone if you take your time and are good with your hands. Next follow that up with cratex to polish and then take it out for a test shoot.

Give it a try, and let us know how it works out.

Try going a cooter hair less than 1/32 of an inch so that you don't have a steeper ramp than is necessary. I don't recommend welding unless you really know what you are doing. I have seen more guns ruined by the process than fixed.

Thanks for such a quick reply, that was another question I'd like to ask is if anybody has specs for installing a ramped barrel, I would imagine if one wanted to build a gun that would feed the unfeedable, a ramped barrel would help? anyway I haven't seen EGW but will take a look. My worry, reading my Khunhausen book is to have enough of the brass supported. I just read that the angle of the barrel's feed ramp doesn't matter as much as the radius on the top inside edge. So as long as I don't cut the top any deeper just the bottom edge I should be OK?

You got it, mark the whole ramp with black marker so you can see if you are going too high. I usually start out first with a triangle scraper. I got it from Enco I beleive it does a good job of getting you at least 3/4 of the way there before firing up the dremel.
