I recently traded for this Main Spring Housing and it has what appears to be a spring adjustment screw in it. I have never seen this before and am curious about what it does. Anybody with any experience in this?
You have a Match part. You can adjust the pressure on the sear of the pistol. I've heard of these but this is the first I have seen. A unique part to be sure and has been off of the market for a long time.
Thank you. I suspected it was for fine tuning something and it just about had to be the sear from where it is located. Wow! Guess this means I have to build at least one more. :D
There were several other parts that went along with the "Match up-grade". The three fingered spring was also made adjustable through the grip safety. The frame was drilled at the rails and four spring loaded round nosed hard pins were inserted and placed a constant force upward on the bottom of the slide. A special pivot link was made for the barrel. These parts were offered as a "kit". After market parts for the M1911 were not all that too common back then. I cannot remember who made the kit, sorry.
If it does not require a special spring I can give it a try in one of my builds and see how it feels. I assume it is to help in a crisp sear release?
Uhhh... I don't know anything about a Match sear pressure adjuster. What it looks like to me is the ILS (integral locking system) from a new Springfield Armory 1991-A1. I just bought one, and it comes with a little key. With the 2 holes vertical it is unlocked... 1/4 clockwise (2 holes horizontal) it becomes locked.
I was just told the same thing by another member. I may play around with it to see if I like it, if not it will make good trade material. It is not like I have a shortage of MSHs. :D
