I just finished my first 1911 build, the parts are from Sarco and frame from NOC. There is a tiny amount of play in the magazine catch. If the 1911 is held so the right side faces down the catch is not flush with the frame it hangs down a 16th of an inch maybe less but enough to sometime release the magazine if I don't check that it has engaged 100%, if i turn the 1911 onto its left side it falls flush with the frame. I noticed when inserting a mag while laying it to the left it holds in securely. Any ideas on how to correct this?
It sounds like you need a new spring, or maybe the catch itself needs to be replaced. Try the spring first - you can borrow on out of a ballpoint pen.
Thanks, I just cut a small piece of an extra spring dropped it in the bottom of the catch and it added the extra preasure needed to take up the play.
