I have a Dan Wesson Patriot I intended to use in a pin match this morning. After shooting a few warm up shots I couldn't release the magazine. It's still stuck in there and I can't get it to release. Suggestions would be appreciated.
The mag says Colt on the floor plate with the prancing hourse and has a shooting star on the follower, which is flat. I can push in the mag release and the mag won't drop out and can't be pulled out.
The match turned out ok as a buddy loaned me a Para LDA to shoot.
Check that the magazine follower hasn't slipped out of the front of the magazine and is binding on the frame. You might as well check for any damage to the top of the magazine while you are at it.
Depress the magazine release and unlock the catch lock (as if you were going to take the release out of the frame).
Try backing you grips screws off a few turns.
Check to see if the slide stop has slipped past the follower and stuck under it.
Other then that, and what gb6491 posted, there isn't anything else that can keep it from coming out except dirt / brass shavings wedged between it & the frame.
You may have to just get more forceful!
Good call on the follower. It was hard to see until I pushed the folower down and felt it click. I recently replaced the spring on this mag and it appears not to be aligning properly.
In those cases, it is hard to tell whether the problem is the gun (the slide stop) or the magazine. The best way is to see if other mags work the slide stop correctly. If not, the problem is likely the slide stop.
