I like to know what would be noticed or gain if you take the hammer hooks down to .021 on a SA 1911?
Reducing the hook height will reduce creep. But I would never go below .025" minimum on a duty or carry gun, and .030" would be better. Several things are possible if you cut them down too far, especially if any angles are off on the sear or hammer to start with. First, the Safety Intercept Notch on the hammer will start hitting the sear and ding off the sharp stoned edge. This will quickly mess up the trigger pull if it is any good to start with. Second, the hammer may follow the slide down, especially when you drop the slide to load it without holding the trigger back. Except on Bullseye Match guns, I wouldn't do it.
I am going to try with a magic marker on the sear edge and see when dry fired if the wear is even across the sear.I think then if anything I will square up the trigger notch and leave the hammer hooks alone.
That sounds like a good plan! (except I don't know what you mean by "trigger notch"?)
