I finaly had a time over the weekend to check my 1911 80% receivers, and I found a bunch of problems namely:

1. It doesn't have canal or channels for the MSH.

2. It doesn't have holes for the DISCONECTOR and 2 holes for the EJECTOR.

3. The mag catch hole on the right side of the frame doesn't have slot for the mag catch lock.

4. It doesn't have a slot for the sear spring. (I already got the dimension on this one at the forum library)

I thought the only thing to do on the 80% receivers are the slide rail :( Can you please give me some pointers on how to finish this project. I already got a set-up for the slide rail using my dremel and a set of files.

Tools available:
Dremel tool with flex shaft
Needle files (set of 5)
Mini hacksaw
slide rail file
SLEDGE HAMMER (just in case the project fails)

Not really problems, but more work than anticipated. The percentage of completion depends on the manufacturer, each one is slightly different. It is subjective and is usually assigned by the manufacturer, and what is 80% to one may only be 70% by another.

here's how I did mine:

I used a mill and a keyway cutter to cut the MSH slots. I'm not sure how you'd cut them without, but I believe it can be done. If the rear grip area for the MSH/Grip safety etc. has not been cut, not just the slots, then you might be in a bit of a spot. you can cut the area out with an endmill, but the sear/hammer area I'm not sure on. i recall that having some odd dimensioning.

An X-Y table and a drill press can solve your holes pretty easily. Find someone near you in the AGSN forums if nothing else and see if you can visit. :)

Thanks for the reply guys it some how lifted up my spirit :) I also forgot to mention that the upper part of the receiver (some call it the upper deck) is not straight! It wasnt grinded off properly. It still have some part of the casting left on it about .100mm thick. It is located in front of the ramp and on the area of the disconnector/ejector hole. I am planning to file this evenly with a 10" flat file? Or place a 600grit sand paper on a glass table and kinda flatten that protrusion on it?
