Hey guys, I have a sarco slide in which the extractor is too long, the ctg. hangs up on the extractor and will not chamber, what do I do about that? Do they make a short extractor? How do I shorten this one? The gap between the ext. lip and the breech face is way too big.

Either the lower extractor hook edge needs to be relieved, or there's too much extractor tension. Kuhnhausen book has a very good description.

Its too long to releive the hook, if I did that there would not be any hook left.

Rework the back end where it is held in by the firing pin plate.

If you recut / grind the extractor's firing stop plate slot, you must fill the gap or the extractor will slip back and forth. For standard 1911, Ed Brown or Chip McCormick extractors are fine, only the IPSC Open nut cases need something more exotic. PS, My Open gun has an AFTEC.

I guess its possible your slide is out of spec meaning your extractor tunnel might be alittle on the short side. I guess you could take the notch your cartridge rim rides up and file it more towards the breech face. If that does not work for you it sounds like you might need to make one from scratch or weld up the notch and remachine it to suit your gun. I think making one from scratch would be easier.

I adjusted the tension, releived the hook, filed a little on the notch, works like a champ, thanks guys!
