Are the extractors usually hard to remove from the slide? Or is it just tensioned? It's about 2 years old, has maybe 500 rounds through it, and as far as I know, the slide has never been detail stripped.
No not usually that hard to get out.
The firing pin stop can be a bit of a bugger some times (depending on how tight the extractor is). After that it should come out with just a bit of work.
Is yours super tight?
A small screwdriver, angled just right (across the back under the extractor) should get it started--care about the finish.
I will try that this evening. I'm always hesitant when it comes to force issues, but you have to realize that some is needed once in awhile. As long as i know there is no adhesive that might be used in the manufacturing phase. Thanx
No adhesive. Sometimes you'll have to give it a little bit of levering to remove it. Be very careful of the finish when you do that. Also, check the hook end to make sure it isn't catching on the breechface. Sometimes a real tight extractor with a big hook will hang up against the breechface requiring a little bit of a push to the outside to get it into the channel.
That took care of it. It just didn't want to come out. I did the extractor test(placing a round against the breech face, and it will hold the round in place, but just barely. Should I just shoot it and see how it works, or add a little tension while i have it apart.
It doesn't have to hold super tight. The round should sag a little bit, but not fall completely off. If it's hanging on, I would hold off and shoot it before making an adjustment. If extraction is consistent, you're in good shape. If it won't pull 'em out of the chamber, you'll need to tighten it up.
Thanks for the info. Gonna take it to the range in a couple of hours , forgot to bring the wilson mags. Maybe the stock ones will work.
