I know a similar questions has come up before. On a lot of Colts I have looked at the dust cover area on the right side seems to be a few thousands lower on the left side. You see this on other brands also. You hardly ever see this on a Kimber. Why? I know it is a cosmetic issue only. I have just bought a LW Colt Commander off gun broker and payed a small premium because the gap was not as larger as another one the vendor had. I know it does not hurt anything other than my eyes. How and why does this happen? Thanks
Because Kimber puts an inordinate amount of effort into thousandths on the dust cover, rather than more important concerns?
Well, actually the dust cover has to be milled at an angle, in relation to the slide or the frame rails. Otherwise the dustcover will hit the slide every time the gun fires, and eventually the frame will crack, just in front of the frame rails.
Something like that:
The dust cover should be along the red lines.
