Can someone give me the min and max height for the disconnector on a 1911 off the top deck.

I'm working on one now. It seems to be working fine but its only sticking up 0.029 off the top deck. Is that enough?

I can't give a min. or max. but I can tell you the disconnector on my factory 1991A1 sticks out of the deck .056" +/- .001" if that helps any?

Thanks for taking the time and helping me, I guess I'm way off if yours is .056. I Really want oversized rails. Does anyone know where I can get a long dis and just fit it myself?

I got a new dis today at a gunshow. I'm at .042 now.I hope that is enough?

If you can shoot the gun and it works, it is long enough. .042 sounds a bit short, but as long as the job is done, no worries.

So what is the proper length for a disconnector to stick up above the frame?

The original question was about a disconnector only sticking .029 above the frame and that does not seem to be enough.

I've measured disconnectors before and they were in the .042 range as well on an Essex frame, not a homebuild.

The first dis I used was too worn. I'm up to .042 now with a new dis. I hope that will work. I can get another .004 off my top deck.If I have too ,I just want to keep the rails as fat as I can. I just wish someone could tell me the min and max height off the deck?

The amount that the disconnector sticks up out of the frame really isn't relevant to anything. Since the head of the disconnector bears against the slide's cartridge pickup rail, you will want to worry about that relationship. Slides, frames, and slide/frame fits vary. You will want to measure the overall length of the disconnector. I forget the dimension range but it's in Kuhnhausen #1. I want to say any shorter than 1.296" is too short, but don't take that as gospel.

The desired result, obviously, is that the slide will push the disconnector paddle down, out of contact with the sear feet, when the slide is retracted. And the disconnector cutout in the slide should allow the disconnector to rise enough to engage the sear feet when the slide is in battery.
