Have a question for ya, I've got a Colt Series 80 that I think needs the magazine catch adjusted.

When I insert a magazine each and every time I've got to push the magazine catch in just a tad to seat the magazine.

Seems like the magazine get's hung up on the release & it needs to be moved just a tick so the magazine will slide all the way into the magazine well without hitting the release.

So, how do I go about adjusting this, or is it something for a gunsmith to adjust??

Depends if your up to a little investigating and filing or stoning and sanding and polishing. If so, you can, through investigating exactly where the edge of the mag is hitting the catch and beveling it better than it is. Finish it up with a polished finish and things will get smooth.

Stop babying it.

Magazine should be inserted forcefully, not "slid in."

I'm not babying it, but if I slam it in hard enough to seat it without depressing the mag catch button it takes a really HARD shove, that makes it feel like the magazine will get dented.

I looked up the mag well & you can see where the mag latch is sticking out and there is a dark spot like the mag is really rubbing up against it hard.

So, I'm just a wimp for not slamming the mag home eh

Funny how my AMT Hardballer slips right in with the same mags without a problem.

I suggest taking the slide off the frame so you can see exactly where the contact point is between the magazine release and the mag. Then as log man suggested, start beveling that corner to allow the mag to slide in easier, then polish it.

I replaced the stock magazine release with an Ed Brown unit that is just a tick taller on my Delta Elite and the mags wouldn't seat at all. I did as these guys are suggesting and all is right with the world again. Just remember, you can't put material back so only take off a little at a time and frequently check the fit.

Like someone said, take the slide off so you can see whats going on.

I would take the catch out, coat the inside where it rubs against the magazine with some magic marker. Then insert the mag several times. This way you can see exactly where the catch is rubbing.
