What is the proper clearance between a barrel bushing and the barrel on a 1911 pistol with a stock barrel? The front or muzzle end of the bushing has a .001 clearance, which I believe is o.k. The rearward part of the barrel bushing has a clearance gap of .038. I know there must be a certain amount of play to allow the barrel to move in and out of lock-up but I can't find anything that tells me what the tolerances should be.

.001 is what most shoot for when fitting a oversize bushing. I dont mic it I just shoot for the tightest fit I can get without springing the barrrel.
