Barrel position to feed ramp question

On a 1911, the lower edge of the barrel should be just about up to the top edge of the feed ramp. What's an acceptable distance between the two? If the barrel is too far from the feed ramp, what's the fix for it? Thankx.

Where da Barrel?

With the barrel in the frame, pushed down and back, with the slidestop pin through the link... the bottom of the throat should sit .032 inch forward of the top corner of the ramp. It can be more than that, but not less. I've seen some as far forward as .060 inch without causing problems. In a bone-stock gun, much farther than that might be indication of a mislocated lower barrel lug though.
