Recently, I bought a Star Super C in 9mm Browning Long. Picked up 5,000 rounds of BL for $490 delivered. After receiving the gun and firing it, I'm fairly certain it is 9mm Largo, not BL. So that didn't work...
I also picked up a RIA 9mm "tactical" 1911. I stumbled across a 9mm Browning Long barrel and bushing made by Bar Sto on Gunbroker and decided to give it a shot.
What kind of recoil spring should I try to make it work? What about the mainspring? Someone suggested I try a 10# recoil spring and 19# mainspring. Is the mainspring and hammer spring (according to Wolff) the same thing? What is the mainspring and recoil spring # from the RIA factory?
I knew it wouldn't cycle, but I shot a few rounds out of the RIA with the BL barrel one at a time and the slide wouldn't close all the when chambering a round. It would stick about 1cm short of closing and I'd have to give it a little tap on the back to close 100%.
Any other suggestions to get this thing running?
Those springs sound too light. Stock springs for the 1911 (5" Government size) are 23 pounds for the hammer spring (main spring), and 16 pounds for the recoil spring. For both 9mm Parabellum and Super .38, the recoil spring drops to 14 pounds. I have never encountered 9mm Browning Long, but if it's longer than 9x19 I'd have to guess it's in the same power range as Super .38 so I would start with a 14-pound recoil spring and standard mainspring. If it doesn't eject forcefully enough, drop the recoil spring to 12 pounds and see how it works.
It is a little weaker than 9x19. It's a little more powerful than the Makarov round. I think it's technically 9x20 SR, but it is actually shorter than 9x19.
