28 January 2008 Will a 10mm barrel work in a 45 frame? I know the slide has to be changed, but will the 45 feedramp work on a 10mm?

The ramp on my Delta Elite resembles the ramp on my .38 Super Gov't model and on my Caspian 9mm frame.

I have successfully used a 9x19mm barrel on all 3 guns. In fact, for a while, my Delta Elite was more reliable as a 9 than as a 10!

I don't think that a .45 frame with a 10mm slide and barrel is going to be reliable, though I did have a .45 slide and barrel on my Caspian 9mm frame and it worked well with hardball, though not at all with anything else.

If some one with contrary experience comes along, I would be willing to reconsider. It is a shame, but it is just one of those things!

Interesting,

I asked this a few days ago and another member was not able to find any big differences in a Delta and a 45 colt frame.

I guess the solution is a ramped barrel, but I am concerned that that may introduce its own problems...

I saw your post earlier, but I didnt see a definative answer... I am trying to decide which route to go, 10mm or 460 Rowland.

This may sound retarded but my friend and I tried to put his Delta Elite slide and barrel on my Springfield Loaded and the slide wouldn't fit all the way on. We looked to see what the problem was and could not find it. They look pretty much the same. We weren't going to shoot it. We were just curious.

I did a little more searching on google.

I came up with some older post on other boards like pistolsmith.com with varying answers.

Some say the 10 uses a Super 38 frame ramp. Some say it runs fine on a 45 frame, some say sometimes it will run on a 45 frame, sometimes not.

I think that I am going to try it, if I can't get it to run with the standard 45 frame and non ramped barrel, I will look into either having the frame ramp re cut or cutting for and fitting a ramped barrel.

It seems the definitive answer is that there isn't a definitive answer...

I believe they just look alike, but that is the extent of the similarities.

I think I will try the 10mm also... If it doesn't fit, I can always sell it and go for the 460 Rowland.

Check the existing 10mm barrel in the frame, see if has overhang in the feed ramp area. If it does, it will not work. The 10mm has to be fully supported in the chamber. Caspian makes a frame with extra meat in the feed ramp area which would be ideal for this.
